NFT Floor Price, Volume and Sales Explained

A floor price tells you about the lowest eligible asking price in the view you are reading. A completed sale tells you that a trade occurred. Volume adds recorded trade amounts over a chosen period. These numbers answer different questions.

Start by checking the collection, payment currency and time window. Without those, even a correct number can be easy to misread.

Asking prices and completed sales

An owner can list an NFT at any asking price. A sale records a completed trade. When comparing serials, look at recent completed sales as well as active listings, and check whether the NFTs share relevant traits.

The cheapest listed serial does not set a guaranteed sale price for every NFT in the collection. A sparse listing set can also change sharply when one owner updates a price.

Read the time window

Twenty sales this week and twenty sales across a collection's lifetime describe very different levels of activity. Keep the date range the same when comparing collections or periods.

For example, three hypothetical sales of 20, 30 and 50 HBAR total 100 HBAR. That arithmetic says nothing about how many distinct buyers participated, whether those buyers still hold the NFTs or what the next buyer will pay.

Know which events are counted

A mint, an NFT transfer and a marketplace sale are different events. A chart should say which it includes. Transfers between an owner's accounts should not be assumed to represent demand from a new buyer.

Currency also matters. Compare like with like, or use a stated conversion method and time. Do not add HBAR amounts and other token amounts as though they were the same unit.

A rarity rank describes a method applied to traits. It is not a promise of market value. Read the collection and ranking context before relying on it.

Use the numbers to ask better questions

Look for the facts behind a change. Did one expensive sale account for most of the volume? Did the time window change? Are you comparing the same payment currency? Is the collection small enough that one listing moves the floor?
